Russian businessmen in Britain as well British companies in Russia are alarmed by the aggravation of relations between the two countries . This was reported by the Russian Ambassador to Great Britain, Alexander Yakovenko.
“A number of companies – BP, Royal Dutch Shell, AstraZeneca, which operate in Russia, as well as our companies operating in the UK, are aghast with horror,” the diplomat said in an interview with Russian media on Friday.
Alexander Yakovenko noted that next week he will meet with the BP Vice President, to reiterate that Russia is a reliable partner for British entrepreneurs.
“We separate the bacchanalia that is taking place at the political level in the UK , there are people who want to build normal relations,” Yakovenko said.
According to him, Russia is not interested in reducing business ties with Britain. “This applies not only to the United Kingdom, but also to other countries in the world,” the Russian ambassador said. “Let’s hope that the British side will not go along the path of further escalation of the sanctions regime.”
Relations between Moscow and London have sharply deteriorated in connection with the case of the poisoning of Sergei Skripal, who in Russia was convicted of espionage.
British Prime Minister Teresa May accused Russia of “illegal use of force” on the territory of the Kingdom, announced the expulsion of 23 Russian diplomats and other measures against the Russian Federation. The Russian side rejected its involvement in the incident and announced the adoption of retaliatory steps.
