Great-grandson of famous Soviet flag-bearer detained
In St. Petersburg, law enforcement agencies have detained the great-grandson of Red Army soldier Abdukhakim Ismailov, who is famous for being the man in the photograph, bearing the Soviet flag over the Reichstag in 1945.
The great-grandson of Ismailov has been detained after he opened fire from a Makarov pistol. Presumably, he did this interceding for a friend. As told to reporters, his friend owed a debt of 500 thousand rubles (about $9,000 USD) When a group of men came to collect the money, Ismailov started to shoot as his friend was being beaten.
As a result of the skirmish, a resident of Chechnya, Abu Davletbaev, was killed. Dmitry Andrianov, who was with him, was injured and hospitalized. Law enforcers detained the grandson of the legendary soldier, and his friend, an investigation is under way.
