ATHENS, Greece – In very stern tone, Panos Kammenos, the Minister of National Defense replied to the Turkish challenges in statements made after the 25th of March military parade.
The Minister of National Defense said: “I want to assure the Greek people that the country’s armed forces are ready to face any challenge to the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.
“We are a peaceful people, we do everything for peace. But whoever dares to challenge our national sovereignty will crush him,” he warned.
“As the Greek fighters crushed a powerful Ottoman empire in 1821. Those who think of great Ottoman empires should remember in 1821. How a soul, the Greek people, united and powerful, confronted the empire and crushed it.”
Speaking of Ankara’s practices, he said: “Such behaviors send it back to where it started, in the depths of the East.”
March 25 is a national holiday in Greece as it marks the country’s liberation from the Ottoman Empire after 400 years of occupation. It was the first country to achieve its independence from the Ottoman Empire.
