Law firm Mossack Fonseca announced has announced its closure. The statement says that the deterioration of its reputation, the campaign in the media and the illegal actions of the Panamanian authorities inflicted irreparable harm on the company.
The company will continue to work in some fields with only 36 employees out of 600. They will deal with administrative issues and hold consultations for authorities and former clients. The company intends to continue cooperation with the authorities to prove that it has not done anything illegal.
Two years ago, the German newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung published documents allegedly belonging to the Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca . According to the publication, these documents testify to the involvement of some world leaders and their entourage in offshore schemes. The authenticity of the “Panamanian dossier” is not officially confirmed.
The Soros-funded Consortium of Journalists who released the information were unable to find President Putin to be directly implicated, which did not stop mainstream media from running with said allegations.
