Serving in the Russian army has become so prestigious that people are now giving bribes to become a contractor, said Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu in an interview for the movie new “Putin”.

“About once a week, we’re faced with new criminal charges on cases of bribes, by those who seek to enter the military service on a contract basis [not compulsory military service], because at the end of the service, there are substantial social security benefits,” he said.  Shoigu said that by the end of 2018, the number of contractors serving in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation should reach almost 500 thousand people.
