The lack of congratulations from US President Donald Trump to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, is not considered an unfriendly step by the Kremlin.
Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for the Russian head of state, said that politicians can not call for many reasons, including because of a tight schedule. “There is no need to exaggerate anything here,” he said.
Peskov also stressed that Putin “remains open for normalization of relations with our American partners.”
The official representative of the White House said that Putin’s re-election to the presidency was received without surprise, and they do not plan a telephone conversation to congratulate him.
Earlier, a number of world leaders congratulated the President. Surprisingly, Macron was the first to call, followed by Merkel, Xi Jinping, and Kim Jong-un.
With 99.83% of the votes processed to date, Putin wins the election with 76.6% of the vote.
