MOSCOW, Russia – Head of the Russian Forces for Radiation, Chemical and Biological Protection, Igor Kirillov, said that UK’s pledge of an additional £48 million ($67,5 million/€55 million) in a new chemical warfare defence centre at its Porton Down military research laboratory following the Sergei Skripal poisoning case “raises question.”

He spoke at a press conference in Moscow on Wednesday.

Kirillov said that the Porton Down laboratory, which he said is located “a few kilometres” from Salisbury, “is a top secret facility, the list of activities of which includes not only the utilisation of old samples of chemical weapons but also experiments which are being made, under the pretext of the development of protective measures against the use of chemical and biological weapons.”

He went on to say that “in the light of recent news, the allocation of £50 million [sic] to the laboratory raises questions on whether Porton Down laboratory’s experts are going to destroy the very ‘Novichok’ that they were talking about.”
