LATAKIA, Syria – The Russian military contingent in the Syrian Republic cast their ballots for the Russian presidential election at the Khmeimim Airbase in Latakia on Friday.
The Russian airbase in Khmeimim serves as Russia’s main military base in the war-ravaged country.
“Voting is organized in accordance with the requirements of the current legislation,” said Andrei Shabal, Deputy Commander of the Russian Armed Forces.
Citizens across the Russian federation will cast their votes on March 18 where it is expected that current Russian President Vladimir Putin will again be elected.
He currently has an 83% approval rating.
