British Ambassador to Russia Laurie Bristow has declined to participate in the meeting of foreign ambassadors in Moscow, dedicated to the “Skripal case”.
“The British Ambassador will not take part in today’s meeting at the Russian Foreign Ministry,” the embassy official said.
Earlier, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs invited ambassadors of foreign countries to explain their views on the poisoning of Sergey Skripal. The meeting will also be visited by experts from the Department for Nonproliferation and Arms Control of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
The former colonel of the Russian GRU (military intel), Sergei Skripal, was sentenced to 13 years for espionage in favor of Britain and transferred to London in the spy exchange in 2010. In March 2018, he was poisoned in the city of Salisbury. The 66-year-old man was found unconscious on a bench in a shopping center along with his 33-year-old daughter.
After the incident, British Prime Minister Teresa May announced that the Royal Family would not attend the World Cup 2018, and extradited 23 Russian diplomats from the UK.
