Russian combat aircraft flew near the the US destroyer USS Donald Cook in the territorial waters of Syria, the Turkish edition of Hurriyet reports .

According to the publication, the destroyer, equipped with 60 Tomahawk rockets, is located about 100 kilometers from the Syrian port of Tartus, where the Russian naval base is located.

Russian fighters approached the ship at least four times.

Previously, the Washington Examiner newspaper, citing a source in the Pentagon, wrote that the USS Donald Cook left the port in Cyprus on Monday and headed towards Syria. With similar missiles, the American side struck Syria on April 7 last year at the Syrian government airbase in Homs province.

The Wall Street Journal, citing sources in the defense sector, reports that in the next few days the USS Porter’s second destroyer, the US Navy, may also be in the Mediterranean.

A reminder that US forces are in Syria illegally, while Russia operate with the legitimate Syrian government permission.
