Former First Lady Barbara Bush dies, aged 92


The wife of the 41st US President George HW Bush Sr. – Barbara, died at the age of 92, according to the statement of the family, distributed by the official representative.

“The former first lady of the United States, Barbara Pierce Bush, died on Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at the age of 92,” the statement of George Bush Sr.’s office said.

Barbara Bush was born in New York on June 8, 1925. On her father’s lineage, she is a distant relative of the 14th US President Franklin Pierce. She met George Bush Sr. at the age of 16 during a Christmas ball. The wedding took place in 1945. As the first lady of the United States, Barbara Bush promoted universal literacy and founded the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy.
