The bill on equating the salary of Duma deputies to the average salary across the country (35,000 rubles, or $540 USD per month) has been submitted to the State Duma. The corresponding document appeared in the database of the lower house of parliament. The initiators are the leader of the “Fair Russia” Sergei Mironov and the deputy from this faction Oleg Nilov.
The bill also abolishes some unreasonable privileges on medical treatment, sanatorium (health resorts) visits, household and pension provisions. This should significantly reduce the cost of maintaining the parliamentary complex.
Currently, deputies earn as much as federal ministers – but the sum is not stated. In 2016, the salaries of parliamentarians were several times higher than the average for Russia, which is norm across all countries. If this bill manages to pass the lower house, it would make it one of a kind in the world.
