BREAKING: dozens killed during US Embassy opening in Jerusalem

In Jerusalem, the Israeli army has killed 37 Palestinians and wounded over 900, trying to curb protests against the opening of the US embassy.

According to the Ministry of Health of Palestine, among the dead was a 14-year-old child.  The number of victims according to different sources is increasing.

In December 2017, US President Donald Trump officially announced the recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Representatives of the White House reported plans to move the embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, but said that there was no suitable building, the move could take years. The head of the Palestinian Hamas movement, Ismail Haniyeh,  called  for the beginning of a new intifada – the Palestinian uprising.

On December 21, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on the non-recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. 128 countries voted for the document, 9 against, 35 abstained. The resolution was adopted by a majority vote despite  threats  from the US to stop financial support for those countries that will support it.
