BEIJING, China – Chinese President Xi Jinping honored Karl Marx’s 200th anniversary birthday during a commemorative event in Beijing’s Great Hall of the People on Friday.
The Chinese President called for the need for “the development of Marxism with fresh and rich contemporary Chinese practices.”
“Constant development of Marxism is the sacred duty of Chinese Communists,” Xi said.
Xi also said, “Writing Marxism onto the flag of the Chinese Communist Party was totally correct… Unceasingly promoting the sinification and modernisation of Marxism is totally correct.”
This became a hallmark for China’s first communist leader, Mao Zedong, who pushed for socialism with Chinese characteristics.
