Washington supports the granting of autocephaly to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, according to a statement of State Department Spokesman Heather Neuert, published on the website of the State Department.
“The United States respects the ability of Ukrainian religious leaders and believers to follow the course on autocephaly in accordance with their beliefs,” “We respect the Ecumenical Patriarch as a voice of religious tolerance and interfaith dialogue.”
Neutert added that the US supports “Ukraine and its territorial integrity.” “We also support Ukraine, while it defines its own path, makes its own decisions and associations free from external interference,” the statement says.
In Ukraine, there is currently one canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC), which is a self-governing church within the Moscow Patriarchate. There are also two church structures, unrecognized by world Orthodoxy, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate (UOC-KP) and the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church. Since 1991, the authorities have repeatedly made attempts to create a local Orthodox church, independent of the Moscow Patriarchate.
The Patriarchate of Constantinople, September 7th, “in preparation for granting autocephaly to the Orthodox Church in Ukraine,” appointed his exarchs in Kiev. The Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church urged Patriarch Bartholomew not to interfere in the internal affairs of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, and his exarchs to leave Ukraine. In response to the authority controlled by the authorities, the knockout resource “Peacemaker” introduced the primate of the UOC Metropolitan Onufry to his database of “enemies of Ukraine.”
In turn, the head of the unrecognized UOC-MP Filaret paid a visit to the US and enlisted the support of former Vice President of this country Joe Biden, whom he awarded with the order of his church structure.
That the US has made this statement publicly, aids in general confirmation that this entire plot was hatched by western intelligence agents. Religion forms one of the fabrics of any society. Societies are more than governments, economies, and armies. Destroying a society means to destabilize it by unraveling its various integral threads. Therefore, what we are seeing in Ukraine today is part of the general campaign to create ongoing hostilities between Ukraine and its former closest friend, Russia.
