Fort Trump Will Be Built, Says Polish Defense Minister

Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak has called the initiative to create a US military base in its territory as a settled issue.

“Fort Trump’ is a Polish-American initiative, ‘Fort Trump’ will be established, it will certainly take place,” Blaszczak announced on Polish radio .

According to him, the issue is not about the increased presence of the US military in Poland, but only about how this will happen and what kind of units there will be. At the same time, Blaszczak declined to divulge details, since he is “taking care of the strong negotiating position of Poland”.

The idea of installing a permanent American armored division in Poland was presented by Polish President Andrzej Duda. He also proposed the name – “Fort Trump”. Warsaw agreed to pay up to $2 billion for the construction of the base.

Trump himself said the US is still considering this proposal, made bilaterally, outside of NATO.

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said he advised the head of the Polish Foreign Ministry not to create “additional bases”, otherwise Minsk and Moscow would have to respond.

Moscow has repeatedly stated that it would never attack any NATO ally. According to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, the Western military alliance is aware of this Russian position, but uses Russia’s alleged aggressiveness as a pretext to boost its military growth near Russian borders.

Just days ago the Polish edition Onet, citing a source, stated that the Americans do not want to set up their military base, called “Fort Trump” in Poland.

“Poland is ready to abandon the original concept of ‘Fort Trump’ in favor of another form of American military presence,” the article claimed.

According to the portal, “warehouses for weapons and ammunition, elements of the American command and intelligence structure … must be installed in the territory of Poland … This concept, according to our informants, is currently being discussed by Poland and the United States.”

The concept of permanent military base in Poland “has almost no chance of implementation”, but the two countries are looking for a commitment to increase the US military presence in the European country, according to the issue.

It remains to be seen who is proven correct between Onet and the Polish official.
