MAJOR: NO! POROSHENKO’S PUSH FOR MARTIAL LAW THWARTED BY UKRAINE’S PARLIAMENT
UPDATE - COMPROMISE REACHED - 30 DAY MARTIAL LAW TO TAKE EFFECT
KIEV, Ukraine – Some factions of the Verkhovna Rada, blocking the work of the plenary session on Monday, did not allow the president of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, to speak on the imposition of martial law in the country. This is stated by the spokesman of the Petro Poroshenko Bloc party, and they hope to resolve the situation.
“A number of factions decided to block the rostrum, they didn’t even let the president speak about what exactly is happening in the Sea of Azov, what challenges the military aggression confronts our state … We hope that this issue will be resolved. If not, this is the position of individual factions of the Verkhovna Rada, who are blocking the rostrum, ”said Sergei Berezenko, deputy head of the BPP faction, on Monday.
Answering the question about whether the president has already left the parliament, the deputy said: “If he left, it seems to me logical. Because for an hour to sit and wait for the opportunity to speak in front of the parliament together with the security forces … Unfortunately, he was not allowed to do this. ”
At the same time, Berezenko added that he regards the actions of some factions of the parliament as a refusal to consider the issue of imposing martial law.
Additionally, just hours ago, the UN Security Council refused (U.S Ambassador to the UN), Nikki Haley‘s demand for a UNSC meeting over the skirmish between Ukrainian and Russian naval forces near the Strait of Kerch. Russian authorities claim that Ukraine’s naval vessels violated Russian maritime space.
Taken together, these are two major set-backs for the ‘War Hawks’ in the U.S and Ukraine. The attempts to create an increasingly tense and chaotic situation appear, so far, to be failing. At this time, it is unknown what the real position of the U.S president, Trump, is over this matter. It is popularly believed that in the U.S, Trump’s policy is at odds with Haley’s as well as most of what is increasingly being termed ‘the deep state’ – the heads of the military industrial complex and the security/intelligence agencies.
At the present time, it appears that Russia’s efforts to remain a responsible party and work towards deconfliction are bearing some fruits.
