SCHISM IN ORTHODOXY: Poroshenko Begins Confiscation of Beloved Orthodox Shrine, Pochaev Lavra

By Maxim Karpenko – KIEV, Ukraine – One of the main shrines of the Russian Church – the Pochaev Lavra – the standard-bearer of Orthodoxy in Western Ukraine – may soon be lost for the UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate.
[Built in 1527, the Holy Dormition Pochaev Lavra Ukrainian: Свято-Успенська Почаївська Лавра; is a monastery in Pochayiv, Kremenets Raion, Ternopil Oblast, Ukraine. For centuries, it has been the foremost spiritual and ideological centre of various Orthodox denominations in Western Ukraine. – ed, J. Flores]
The Ministry of Justice of Ukraine on Friday announced that it had declared the agreement concluded in 2003 on the transfer of the monastery buildings, cathedrals and Lavra, for the free use of the UOC-MP, as illegal. The UOC-MP is the rightful Orthodox Church of Ukraine, Moscow Patriarchate.
This contract was concluded for 49 years – until 2052, shortly before the “Orange Revolution” – the first Maidan. The then Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych hoped to enlist the votes of the Orthodox. The Pochaev Lavra was not the only one – the UOC-MP shortly before the elections received, for example, the Vladimir Cathedral in Chersonesos.
Today’s decision to terminate the contract with the UOC-MP was taken on the basis of the consideration by the Ministry of Justice of a complaint of a local historical and cultural reserve. The lawyer of the organization found a clue – Ukrainian legislation does not allow transferring property for free for a period of more than 1 year – that is, such an agreement should be renewed annually.
Thus, the situation around Pochaev Lavra can become a precedent for the gradual squeezing of the UOC-MP from other shrines in order to transfer them to the “united local Ukrainian church” created by the United States and their puppets – Patriarch Bartholomew and President Petro Poroshenko.
As we know, the Ukrainian authorities have already decided to transfer a new splitting up of the structure to the famous St. Andrew’s Church in the center of Kiev, built by Russian kings.
In the most important shrine – the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra – part of the temple now belongs not to the Church, but to the schismatics, so Poroshenko can already today give the upper monastery to the schismatics, and then gradually oust the UOC-MP from the rest of the Monastery.
Even the ex-press-secretary of the SBU, Stanislav Rechinsky, who even sympathizes with the nationalists, acknowledges that the situation is explosive as a result of hatred inflicted on the UOC-MP.
“A hate field is being created. When a spark is enough, and someone goes to storm the monasteries, someone will beat the nuns. And the war will begin. This is the layout. Do not believe in this. We live here. For all of us. Side by side. It is foolish to hate,” wrote Rechinsky in his blog.
