SPIKE IN NATO RECON MISSIONS: Russian Su-27 Intercepts American Aircraft Over Baltic Sea

MOSCOW – The Russian Su-27 intercepted an American reconnaissance aircraft P-8A Poseidon over the Baltic Sea. This was reported by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, reports TASS.  This reflects a notable uptick in NATO reconnaissance and provocation missions in the Baltic in the last week, paralleling the events in Venezuela which the U.S and Russia are on opposite sides of.

The plane approaching the Russian border was noticed above neutral waters, told in the military department.

“In order to intercept the target, the Su-27 fighter from the duty force for air defense was raised in the air. The crew of the Russian fighter approached a safe distance to the air object, identified it as a P-8A Poseidon reconnaissance aircraft of the US Air Force, ”the ministry stressed.

The Russian fighter returned safely to the home airfield.
