From April 25-27 Beijing will host a second international forum on the Belt and Road Initiative and it won’t be a small deal. The four weeks preceding this event have seen an incredible surge of nations and institutions joining the BRI framework beginning with Italy’s Memorandum of Understanding as the first G7 nation in March, followed soon thereafter by Luxembourg and Switzerland. Weeks later, China won another victory by consolidating billions in infrastructure deals with the 16+1 Central and Eastern European Nations who have signed onto the BRI. This particular forum was especially important as it saw Greece join the… Continue ->

BRASILIA – In the year in which Brazil is to host the BRICS summit, greater uncertainties have arisen over the country’s performance on the bloc, caused by the stance of Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, who openly calls for more alignment with the US, Israel and other countries outside the bloc. Professor of the Economics Institute of UNICAMP, Mariano Francisco Laplane, commented on the performance of the Bolsonaro government in relation to the BRICS, reinforcing that it is an “unnatural” position of the country. The analyst pointed out that, traditionally, Brazil’s international position is quite independent, since the country historically has… Continue ->

KIEV – As expected the comedian Volodymyr Zelenski will soon become the new president of Ukraine. But for many, even within the country, the president-elect remains a mystery because it is still unclear where he will lead the Slavic State and if he will manage to fulfill his electoral promises. Zelenski won the election with an astonishing result – 73% of the votes – and defeated by a wide margin his opponent Petro Poroshenko, the outgoing president, who obtained less than 25% of the votes. The elections counted a participation of 62% of the census, a relatively low percentage. The… Continue ->

MOSCOW – Russian Deputy Defense Minister Aleksandr Fomin said on Monday that Venezuela is capable of facing external military aggression. “We believe that the legitimate government of Venezuela, led by [President Nicolás] Maduro, has the situation under control, the Bolivarian National Armed Forces are capable of facing external aggression,” Fomín told the RT channel on the eve of the International Security Conference of Moscow, which begins on April 23. The Deputy Minister of Defense stressed that Russia offers “support for Venezuela, especially in the field of technical-military cooperation.” “We have several agreements that we respect and assist in maintaining operational… Continue ->

PYONGYANG – North Korean leader Kim Jong-un will visit Russia for a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Central News Agency of Pyongyang (KCNA) said on Monday. The agency said the visit would happen “soon” but did not disclose further details. Earlier, however, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the two leaders would meet at the end of April. The meeting is scheduled to take place at the Federal University of the Far East in Vladivostok, according to Kommersant. The site must be approved by North Korea because of concerns about the safety of the country’s leader. Earlier this week,… Continue ->

WASHINGTON – Turkey-US relations continue to sour and the US has begun to openly discuss various options regarding US/NATO armaments. US Senator Bob Menendez believes that the US can move its armaments from Incirlik’s military base in Turkey to Greece if relations with Ankara worsen. However, this option may not be available to them. “We do not expect Turkey to go the wrong way, but if that happens, we will do everything that is up to us to protect our national security and the security of our allies,” he said in an interview with the Greek newspaper Kathimerini . “We… Continue ->

Editor’s note: Deconstructing Fake News Narratives – The below narrative puts the cart before the horse and minimizes the role of Kolomoisky, fails to mention Rinat Akhmetov, and elements from within the U.S to such an extent that the piece reads and feels like ‘legitimizing sanitization’. At the same time, it will be curious to see ‘which’ factions from within the splintered U.S establishment (if we follow that theory) were more supportive of Zelensky. Rinat Akhmetov is a critical player, given that he owns significant industry in the DPR and is a multi-billionaire Ukrainian oligarch with more wealth than Kolomoisky,… Continue ->
