Luxembourg Prime Xavier Bettel (above right) called for “maintaining pressure” on the Russian Federation so it would “fulfill the agreements executed in Minsk.” He stated this at a briefing during a visit to Kiev.

“With regard to Russia, it is necessary to keep up the pressure, I think it’s hard to imagine that you have not been getting support. It is important to uphold your efforts to this end, namely that the Minsk agreements be upheld. It is important for Luxembourg and for the other 27 EU member states. It is very important for you to know that you have the support, and actually, the congratulations, on the successes which the Ukrainians have attained,” he said.

In turn, the president of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said “Luxembourg’s current Presidency in the EU will give Ukraine more opportunities, which it will certainly take advantage of.”

The total area of Luxembourg is 2 586.4 square kilometers, equivalent to the area of Moscow. The population in 2014 was 549,680 people.

As Russian Spring previously reported, in May this year, the Prime Minister of Luxembourg entered into a gay marriage with his partner, architect Gauthier Destinay. Thus, Bettel became the first European leader and second world leader, to get married to a same-sex partner.
