The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said during his speech on Victory Day that Nazism as defeated by the “Ukrainian soldier”.

“Just as in the 30s-40s of the last century, when our ancestors protected their native lands from the Nazi invasion, we are now defending our glorious Ukraine from the Moscow horde,” he said.

The Ukrainian leader also said that the Ukrainians headed “almost half of the 15 fronts” of the Great Patriotic War.

“Among the Soviet generals of the Second World War period there were about 300 Ukrainians, but, in my deep conviction, Nazism wasdefeated first of all by the Ukrainian soldier,” Poroshenko asserts.

In the course of his speech, the head of state added that the main role in the victory was carried out by the soldiers that fought “not for Stalin, but for their land and family.”

“Without the millions of Ukrainian soldiers in World War II, the world war would not have ended, most likely it would have lasted longer. We need to remember the feats of Ukrainians on all fronts of World War II, “he concluded.
